We're getting ready for the first 10-man run of the year, and there's a couple of things you'll need before we go: Mumble voice chat and Omen threatmeter. Mumble is a free, open-source chat program (like Ventrillo, but a better fit for our situation) and Omen is the de facto standard threatmeter. Read on for download locations and installation help.
Setting up Mumble
What you need:
- Mumble installation program
- Speakers
- Microphone is usually optional, but necessary for smacktalk
How to do it:
- Dowload current version of Mumble (1.1.6 as of this writing) from http://mumble.sourceforge.net and install program.
- Run Mumble
- Perform audio wizard if you plan on using microphone. Can skip audio wizard if you will only be listening to chat.
- Add a custom server
- click 'Server' then 'Connect' to bring up the 'Mumble Server Connect' screen
- click 'Custom Servers'
- give the server a Label like 'boot club' or 'big negatory' or 'poop'
- set the address to 'bootclub.game-host.org' (no apostrophes)
- leave the port as its default, 64738
- pick a username, probably your real name or game name, like 'josh' or 'belisle'
- our server password is 'priestsrock'
- Connect to the Bootclub Mumble Server
- Adjust the World of Warcraft overlay
- click 'Configure' then 'Settings'
- check the 'Expert Config' box at the bottom left of the settings screen
- scroll down and view the overlay menu
- change the topmost menu from 'Show Everyone' to 'Show Only Talking'
- click 'Apply' then 'OK'
You should have a working Mumble connection now. The default setting is 'Voice Activity' which may work for you, but you may want to adjust it to 'Push to Talk' on the Input Settings section of the Settings menu. If you have any other questions, logon to WoW and ask Josh.
Setting up Omen Threatmeter
What you need:
- Omen threatmeter zip file, available from http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/omen-threat-meter.aspx
- Find your WoW installation directory
How to do it:
- Unzip the Omen zip file to your WoW addons folder, \World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns
- Reboot WoW
- Enable the Omen addon from your character selection screen
