Guild Must-haves: Mumble

We're getting ready for the first 10-man run of the year, and there's a couple of things you'll need before we go: Mumble voice chat. Mumble is a free, open-source chat program (like Ventrillo, but a better fit for our situation). Read on for download locations and installation help.

Setting up Mumble

What you need:

1. Mumble installation program
2. Speakers
3. Microphone is usually optional, but necessary for smacktalk

How to do it:

1. Dowload current version of Mumble (1.2.2 as of this writing) from http://mumble.sourceforge.net and install program.
2. Run Mumble
3. Perform audio wizard if you plan on using microphone. Can skip audio wizard if you will only be listening to chat.
4. Add our server
1. click 'Server' then 'Connect' to bring up the 'Mumble Server Connect' screen
2. click 'Add New'
3. give the server a Label like 'guild server' or 'big negatory' or 'poop'
4. set the address to mumble.bootclub.net (no apostrophes)
5. change the port from its default setting to 3262
6. pick a username, probably your real name or game name, like 'josh' or 'belisle'

Tuesday Must-haves: Mumble and Omen

We're getting ready for the first 10-man run of the year, and there's a couple of things you'll need before we go: Mumble voice chat and Omen threatmeter.  Mumble is a free, open-source chat program (like Ventrillo, but a better fit for our situation) and Omen is the de facto standard threatmeter.  Read on for download locations and installation help.

New for Tuesday's Kara Run: BootClub Radio returns!

Gonna try something a little different for Tuesday's raid: streaming radio!

We'll be broadcasting on a standalone radio server - since it's not over the chat system, you don't have to listen if you don't want to (and you have complete volume control!) Login to the site to upload requests (use the Web File Manager to upload them).

To listen to BootClub radio you'll need any web-capable media player, such as

  • Windows Media Player
  • VLC
  • MediaMonkey (my favorite)
  • Winamp
  • Musicmatch (really hope no one is still using this)

Connection Method 1:

  1. Boot your music player
  2. Click 'Open URL'
  3. Type http://radio.bootclub.net in the 'open' field. (In case of IP resolution problems, use http://bootclub.game-host.org:18500)
  4. Click 'OK'

Connection Method 2:

1.1.08 - New Year's Game Night

Happy New Year!  We're gonna welcome in 2008 with a blast - guns, tanks, grenades, and missles, actually.  In a sudden change of pace, we'll be playing some Battlefield 1942 and CS tonight, starting as early as 6:00pm Eastern/5:00pm Central Time.  Make sure you have the games installed and patched - contact Josh if you have any questions, and feel free to spread the word.

8.14.07 - Game Night

Its Battlefield 1942 night for the BootClub. Anyone/Everyone is welcome to join in. You'll need to:

  • Install Battlefield 1942
  • Patch BF to 1.6.19
  • Patch BF 1.6.19 to 1.6b (get 6MB patch here)
  • Install Desert Combat Mod 0.7

Right now we're playing on 74.197.26.138:14567. Come join us!RogerWilco server: 74.197.26.138:3782Also, members login & jump in the BootChat chatroom. Updated 7:19pm, CST

9.3.05 - CounterStrike: Source Game Night

It looks like the stars have aligned tonight- we're planning a
'massive' CS:S gamenight.  It will probably be a combination of
Human Vs. Hard Bots, some players and some bots vs other players &
bots, and simple player vs. player - anything that sounds fun, we'll
do.

More details, if we have any, will be posted on the GameShout
block.  Plan on connecting to the CS:Source Server IP, starting
around 8:00pm CDT, 9:00 eastern.  That's just a guess at the
times- if you have a better time, post it in the gameShout!

7.22.05 - Counter Strike the BootClub way

The items mentioned in today's update aren't brand-spanking new, but
they have somehow slipped under the watchful eye of Front Page
News. For those of you who play Counter Strike: Source,
this is important. For those of you who don't, skip to the last
paragraph (but remember the existence of this article, should you ever
end up playing it in the future).

BootClubber Jeremy has invested a buttload of hours into some special 'tweaks' just for CS: Source.
First, there's the fine collection of BootClub spray paint
images. Click them below to see images of them in action:

Though those sprays are all really cool, that's not all that Jeremy
made. The BootControl Suite is a one-stop-shop for all of your CS
server controls. It installs easily, then allows you to add and
kick bots, toggle server options (like the annoying sv_lan 0 and
sv_alltalk 1), change in-game physics, and even switch maps, all
through an easy-to-use in-game HUD style menu. No restarting
server- and no manual typing of commands.

Both the BC Sprays and BootControl Suite can be yours today for three
easy payments of FREE! Members just need to log in to this site,
then go to the downloads section. They are available in the Gaming Files/CS: Source
area; the BC Sprays are 1.4MB in size, while the BootControl Suite is a
tiny 12KB. Both come as a zip file and include setup instructions.

Now for this much-anticipated last paragraph. In the writing of
this article, I seem to have forgotten what I was originally gonna put
here- until I remember, I just suggest you click the above links to
take a look at Jeremy's wonderful spray images. Even if you don't
play the game, they look pretty neat.

5.10.05 - BootClub: The Final Frontier

o, after five days of hacking-up-more-snot-than-is-humanly-possible, I am no longer sick. Allie is, but that's another story.
In retalliation for my sickness, and lost productivity time, I will
write a truly amazing update. Not right now, of course, but soon.
Probably very soon. Or at least when I feel like it.

Why? Because today is The Inaugral Game Day of Star Trek: Bridge Commander
for the BootClub. Talk to josh (AIM: smileifyouwanna) about playing-
we're gonna have a big multiplayer dogfight with all the photon
torpedos, Klingons, phasers, Romulans and tricorders you can eat! All
for only $4.99! Not really for $4.99!

4.8.05 - Game Night Tonight

Last minute update on a game-night for tonight, Friday, April 8th. We're planning on some BF1942/DC, and whatever else comes to mind. Will happen kinda late- around 9:00pm CT or 10:00pm ET IM Josh or Dave to find out more.
Note to Dave: if you get IM'd, act like you know all the details of this

2.11.05 - A Weekend of Games (I hope)

Alright- its been a long time coming, and hopefully it will work out this time. I'm proposing 3 nights of games for this weekend- come and go as you please.
Here's a general schedule, which is very flexible, depending on response. Should non of you be wanting to play any multiplayer games, I'll just play Rome: Total War for hours and hours and hours. Anyways:

  • Friday: RPG Games
Starting around 8:00pm Central time, 9:00pm Eastern. Neverwinter Nights- server to be determined
  • Saturday: First Person Shooters
Starting around 6:00pm C, 7:00pm E. BF1942, BF Road to Rome, BFV, Counterstrike, and HL: multiplayer
  • Sunday: Odds and Ends
Starting around 7:00pm C, 8:00pm E. Who knows what we'll play? Maybe some CS, BFV, BF, PS2, or even Star Trek: Bridge Commander. I'd even be up for trying out something new, like the Tribes: Vengence multiplayer demo, or some other easy-to-acquire game

My Instant messenger should be on all weekend- IM me, or call me, to get the current status (I might post it on here, too, once a general group decision has been made) Hope you can all make it. Post ideas below

Jeff is in for Saturday and Sunday
